In recent years, dental implants have become one of the most effective and reliable solutions for replacing missing teeth. Beyond improving appearance, dental implants help restore normal chewing, speech, and overall oral function. They are ideal for healthy individuals who have lost teeth due to gum disease, injury, or trauma.
Dental implant restoration is a routine treatment in modern dentistry. Designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth, implants provide a long-term solution that enhances both function and aesthetics.
For dental implants to be successful, adequate jawbone support is essential. In some cases, bone loss may occur as a result of periodontal disease or prolonged tooth loss. When there is insufficient bone to support an implant, a regenerative procedure may be recommended.
This procedure, known as bone grafting or bone augmentation, helps rebuild lost bone and tissue, creating a stable foundation for dental implants. Bone grafting is often performed together with implant treatment to improve stability, longevity, and overall treatment outcomes.
If you have been told you may need bone grafting, rest assured that it is a well-established and safe procedure. Our dental team will carefully assess your condition and recommend a personalised treatment plan to help you achieve a healthy, confident smile.
A dental bone graft is a specialised procedure used to replace lost bone in the jaw. During the treatment, bone grafting material is placed in the affected area to encourage new bone growth.
The procedure begins with your dentist or oral surgeon making a small incision in the jaw. The bone graft material is then placed into the area where bone is missing. Over time, your natural bone gradually grows and integrates with the graft material, forming strong, healthy new bone.
There are several types of bone graft materials commonly used:

Bone taken from your own body, usually from the hip, chin, or another area of the jaw
Bone sourced from a human donor
Bone derived from animals, most commonly cows
Synthetic materials made from hydroxyapatite, a mineral naturally found in bone
Grafts made from ceramic materials, sometimes combined with calcium or bioactive glass
Complex procedures like bone grafting may require more than a single visit to complete. The steps of bone grafting are as follows
We will use a local anesthetic to numb the surgical site.
Next, the surgical site is thoroughly cleaned and an incision is made in the gum tissue to expose the bone.
The bone graft material is then attach to the exposed bone.
Once the graft material place, the area is sutured and disinfected.
