What Are Digital Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. A custom crown is attached on top, looking and functioning just like a natural tooth.
What makes digital dental implants different is how they are planned and placed. Instead of relying on conventional X-rays and manual techniques, our dentists use advanced 3D digital technology to map your jaw in precise detail — before a single incision is made.
- 2D X-rays
- Manual positioning judgement
- Larger incision
- 3D CBCT scan & intraoral scanning
- Virtual plan + 3D-printed surgical guide
- Small, pre-planned incision
This means your entire implant procedure is designed virtually first, with the actual surgery following a pre-programmed, computer-guided plan. The result: greater accuracy, less discomfort, and a faster recovery.

Conventional vs Immediate vs Same-Day
Dental ImplantWhat’s the Difference?
The difference is simply when the implant goes in, and whether you leave with a tooth that day.
All three can be digitally planned. Immediate and same-day options additionally require no active infection and enough bone to hold the implant steady straight away — confirmed by your 3D CBCT scan at consultation. Every option still ends with a permanent crown once the implant has fused with the bone.
Immediate Implant Placement vs Same-Day Dental Implants
What Is Immediate Implant Placement?
Immediate implant placement means the implant fixture is placed into the socket right after a tooth is extracted, in the same visit — instead of the conventional approach of waiting 2 to 3 months for the extraction site to heal before placing an implant. This reduces the number of surgical visits and shortens your overall treatment timeline.
Immediate placement is only suitable for certain cases — your dentist needs to confirm there’s no active infection at the extraction site and sufficient bone to stabilise the implant immediately. This is assessed using the same 3D CBCT scan used for digital implant planning.
What Are Same-Day Dental Implants?
Same-day dental implants (also called immediate loading) go one step further than immediate placement: not only is the implant placed on the same day, but a temporary crown or bridge is also attached during the same visit — so you don’t leave the clinic without a tooth.
The final, permanent crown is fitted later, once the implant has fully fused with the jawbone (osseointegration), typically after 3 to 6 months.
How Digital Technology Enables
Same-Day & Immediate Implants
Same-day and immediate implant placement have become possible largely because of advances in 3D cone beam imaging and digital planning. Before your procedure, a 3D CBCT scan maps your bone density, nerve pathways, and sinus position in detail — letting your dentist confirm with confidence, before surgery even begins, whether immediate placement or same-day loading is safe and appropriate for your case.
Maps bone density, nerve pathways and sinus position before any incision.
Confirms in advance whether immediate placement or same-day loading is safe for you.
Directs the exact position and angle of the implant during surgery.
Removes the uncertainty that made same-day treatment riskier with older manual techniques.
The Digital Implant Process at Meiplus Dentalcare
3D CBCT Scan & Intraoral Scanning
We take a cone beam 3D CBCT scan of your jaw, capturing detailed images of your bone structure, nerve pathways, and sinus cavities. An intraoral scanner records the exact shape of your teeth and soft tissues.
Virtual Implant Planning
Your dentist uses advanced planning software to simulate the ideal position, angle, and depth of your implant in a 3D digital model. This prosthetically-driven planning ensures the implant fits your bite and facial structure precisely, and confirms whether immediate placement or same-day loading is suitable for you.
Custom Surgical Guide Fabrication
A custom surgical guide is 3D-printed based on your digital plan. This precision guide acts as a template during surgery, directing every drill to the exact location mapped in your plan.
Guided Implant Surgery
With the surgical guide in place, your dentist places the implant through a small, minimally invasive incision. The pre-planned path protects nearby nerves, sinuses, and tissues throughout. For eligible patients, this is also when immediate placement or a same-day temporary crown happens.
Healing & Osseointegration
Your implant fuses with your jawbone over 3–6 months through a natural process called osseointegration.
Final Crown Placement
A fully customised ceramic crown is fitted onto your implant — matched precisely to the shape, colour, and function of your natural teeth.
Why Choose Digitally Guided Implants?
Greater Precision
3D planning maps every millimetre of your jaw, ensuring implants are placed at the exact angle and depth for maximum stability and longevity.
Minimally Invasive
Computer-guided surgery requires smaller, more precise incisions — meaning less bleeding, less swelling, and less post-operative discomfort.
Shorter Surgery Time
Because every step is pre-planned digitally, time in the dental chair is significantly reduced.
Faster Recovery
Less surgical trauma means your body heals faster, so you return to normal life sooner.
Reduced Risk of Complications
Critical structures like nerves and sinuses are identified and avoided in your digital plan before surgery even begins.
Predictable, Beautiful Results
Your crown is designed digitally to match your natural teeth — the final outcome is planned from day one.
Who Is a Candidate for Digital,
Same-Day, or Immediate Implants?
Suitable for most patients seeking tooth replacement, and especially beneficial for:
These faster options have two additional requirements:
No active infection
The extraction site must be free of infection at the time of placement.
Enough bone
Sufficient bone volume to hold the implant steady straight away.
Both are confirmed by your 3D CBCT scan at consultation — never assumed in advance. If your case isn’t suitable for same-day treatment, your dentist will recommend the conventional staged approach, which still benefits from digital planning and guided surgery.

Not sure if you’re suitable? Book your assessment at our Tanjong Pagar or Marine Parade clinic.

FAQs on Digital, Same-Day
& Immediate Implants
What is a digital dental implant?+
A digital dental implant uses 3D CBCT scanning, virtual planning software, and a computer-generated surgical guide to plan and place your implant with high precision. This technology allows your dentist to design your entire implant procedure digitally before surgery, reducing errors and improving outcomes.
What is the difference between same-day dental implants and immediate implant placement?+
Immediate implant placement means the implant fixture is placed at the same visit as your tooth extraction. Same-day dental implants go a step further — a temporary crown is also attached that same day, so you leave with a visible tooth. You can have immediate placement without same-day loading, depending on your case.
How is digital guided implant surgery different from traditional implant surgery?+
Traditional implant surgery typically relies on 2D X-rays and manual positioning during the procedure. Digital guided surgery uses a 3D CBCT scan and virtual planning software to map the exact implant position beforehand, then a 3D-printed surgical guide directs precise placement during surgery — improving accuracy and often reducing surgery time and recovery.
Am I a candidate for immediate implant placement or same-day implants?+
You may be a candidate if there’s no active infection at the extraction site and sufficient healthy bone to stabilise the implant immediately. This is confirmed using a 3D CBCT scan at your consultation — not every case qualifies, and your dentist may recommend the conventional staged approach if immediate placement isn’t suitable for you.
Is digital guided implant surgery painful?+
Digital guided implant surgery is performed under local anaesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. Because the surgery is more precise and minimally invasive, many patients report less swelling and discomfort afterward compared to conventional implant surgery.
How long does digital guided implant treatment take?+
The implant placement itself is often quicker than conventional surgery due to pre-planning, but full treatment — from consultation to final crown — typically takes 3 to 6 months to allow for osseointegration, whether or not you opt for immediate placement or same-day loading.
How much do digital dental implants cost in Singapore?+
Digitally guided implant treatment at Meiplus Dentalcare costs the same as a standard implant — starting from $1,050 after a MediSave claim of $1,950 per implant, with no additional fee for 3D CBCT planning or the surgical guide. Your exact quote is confirmed after a 3D CBCT assessment. Prices are subject to prevailing GST.
Can I use MediSave for digital dental implants in Singapore?+
Yes. The surgical component of implant placement — including digitally guided, immediate, and same-day procedures — is MediSave claimable for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, subject to CPF Board withdrawal limits.
Is digital guided implant surgery suitable for full-arch replacement?+
Yes. Digital planning is especially useful for full-arch cases like All-on-4, where precise placement of a small number of implants needs to support an entire arch of teeth. See our All-on-4 dental implants page for details.
Where can I get digital dental implants in Singapore?+
Meiplus Dentalcare offers digitally guided implant treatment, including immediate placement and same-day options for eligible patients, at our Tanjong Pagar (flagship) and Marine Parade clinics.
How do I know if I need a bone graft with my implant?+
Your 3D CBCT scan, taken as part of digital implant planning, shows your dentist exactly how much bone volume and density you have. If it’s insufficient to support an implant, a bone graft may be recommended — see our bone grafting page for more detail.
