Bone Grafting for Dental Implants in Singapore
Not enough jawbone for a dental implant? A bone graft can rebuild the foundation you need — so your implant has the best chance of lasting a lifetime. Meiplus Dentalcare offers bone graft procedures for dental implants at our Tanjong Pagar and Marine Parade clinics. Consultations are available in English, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese.

What is a Dental Bone Graft?
A dental bone graft is a procedure that restores lost or insufficient bone in the jaw. When a tooth is lost or extracted, the surrounding bone begins to shrink over time. Without enough bone, a dental implant cannot be securely placed.
During the procedure, bone grafting material is placed at the affected site, encouraging your body to grow new, healthy bone. This creates the solid foundation needed to support a dental implant.
Do You Need a Bone Graft Before an Implant?
A 3D CBCT scan allows our dentists to precisely assess your bone volume and plan the right treatment for you. Bone grafting may be recommended if you have:

Not every implant patient needs a bone graft — many of our All-on-4 cases, for example, are designed specifically to avoid it. Your dentist will confirm whether it’s necessary for your case at consultation.

Types of Bone Graft Materials
We use clinically proven materials tailored to your needs:
Autograft
Bone taken from your own body (e.g. chin or jaw).
Allograft
Processed bone from a human tissue donor bank.
Xenograft
Sterilised animal-derived bone, most commonly bovine.
Alloplast
Synthetic materials such as hydroxyapatite that mimic natural bone.
Your dentist will recommend the most suitable material based on the site, amount of bone needed, and your medical history.
How is Bone Grafting Done?
Local Anaesthesia
The surgical area is numbed for your comfort.
Accessing the Bone
A small incision is made in the gum to expose the underlying bone.
Placing the Bone Graft
The bone graft material is secured at the site where bone is needed.
Closing the Area
The area is sutured. Over 3–6 months, your natural bone gradually integrates with the graft.
Subsidy Schemes
We are an accredited dental group for Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), Merdeka Generation Scheme, Pioneer Generation Scheme, and the Medisave Scheme

FAQs on Bone Grafting
A dental bone graft is a procedure that adds bone material to an area of the jaw that has lost density or volume, usually after tooth loss. It gives your body a scaffold to grow new bone around, creating a strong enough foundation to support a dental implant.
A dental implant needs enough surrounding bone to stay firmly anchored, much like a fence post needs solid ground. If the jawbone has shrunk due to missing teeth, gum disease, or a long gap since extraction, a graft rebuilds that bone first so your implant has a stable, long-lasting foundation.
A 3D CBCT scan at your consultation shows your dentist exactly how much bone volume and density you have at the implant site. If it falls short of what’s needed, your dentist will recommend a bone graft and explain what to expect before moving ahead with your implant.
Bone grafting at Meiplus Dentalcare starts from $650 per area. The final cost depends on the amount of graft material needed and your specific case. MediSave claims are available from $1,120 for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents — your dentist will provide a full written quote and your exact claimable amount after your assessment. Prices stated are subject to prevailing GST.
Yes. Bone grafting performed as part of implant treatment is MediSave claimable for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, with claims available from $1,120, subject to CPF Board limits. CHAS cardholders may also be eligible for subsidies on related consultations. Our team will confirm your exact claimable amount at your appointment.
Initial healing — when swelling and discomfort subside — typically takes about 1–2 weeks. Full integration of the graft with your natural bone takes longer, usually 3 to 6 months, before an implant can be placed on top of it if it wasn’t done at the same time.
In some cases, yes — if there’s enough existing bone to stabilise the implant while the graft heals around it. In cases with more significant bone loss, the graft needs to fully integrate first before the implant is placed. Your dentist will determine which approach is right for you based on your 3D CBCT scan.
A sinus lift is a specific type of bone graft used for upper back jaw implants, where the sinus cavity limits available bone height. The procedure gently lifts the sinus membrane and adds bone material beneath it, creating enough space for a secure implant. It’s only needed if your upper jaw doesn’t have sufficient bone height in that area.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the graft itself — only pressure. Afterward, mild swelling and discomfort for a few days is normal and manageable with prescribed pain medication, similar to recovery after a tooth extraction.
You can get a bone graft assessment, including a 3D CBCT scan and consultation, at our Tanjong Pagar (flagship) or Marine Parade clinics. Our dentists will assess your bone volume and advise whether grafting is needed as part of your implant treatment plan.
