What Changed? Singapore’s New Flexi-MediSave Policy (June 2026)
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced a significant update to the Flexi-MediSave scheme. Starting 1 June 2026, Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 60 and above can now use their MediSave savings to help cover the cost of two common dental procedures.
- Permanent crowns
- Root canal treatment (RCT)
This update, communicated via MOH Finance Circular No. 35(b)/2026 — is a meaningful step forward in making restorative dental care more accessible and affordable for older Singaporeans.
What is Flexi-MediSave?
Flexi-MediSave is a scheme that allows Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 60 and above to use up to $400 per patient per year from their own or their spouse’s MediSave Account for outpatient medical treatment.
Previously, dental treatments were not covered under Flexi-MediSave. This new update changes that — specifically for permanent crowns and root canal procedures.

Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you meet all of the following:
- You are a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- You are aged 60 or above
- You hold a valid CHAS card (Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, or CHAS Blue/Orange)
- The treatment is performed at a CHAS-accredited dental clinic
- If you wish to use your spouse’s MediSave, your spouse must also be aged 60 or above.
How much MediSave can I use?
Up to $400 per patient per year under the Flexi-MediSave scheme. This can be used toward permanent crown or root canal procedures, helping to offset what can otherwise be significant out-of-pocket costs.
What dental procedures are covered?
1. Permanent Crowns
Up to 4 permanent crowns per calendar year. Eligible materials include metal (excluding stainless steel), ceramics, zirconia, and metal-ceramic combinations. Lab fabrication costs may also be included. Note: implant-supported crowns are not claimable.
2. Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
Up to 2 RCTs per calendar year, shared across anterior (front), premolar, and molar teeth. The full procedure including pulpectomy, X-rays, and any required intermediate restoration must be included as a whole treatment — they cannot be claimed separately.
What is NOT covered?
- Implant-supported crowns or mini-implant supported crowns
- Inlays or resin-retained bridges
- Root canal re-treatment on a previously treated tooth
- Procedures on baby (deciduous) teeth
- Claims cannot be submitted before the treatment is fully completed
Can I combine Flexi-MediSave with CHAS subsidies?
Yes. The Flexi-MediSave extension is designed to complement the existing CHAS dental subsidies, not replace them. If you are eligible for both, you may be able to use CHAS subsidies first and then apply Flexi-MediSave toward the remaining balance. Speak to our clinic team and we can walk you through what applies to your situation.
Do I need to do anything to make a claim?
You will need to sign a Medical Claims Authorisation Form (Single Institution), or MCAF(S), before we can file the Flexi-MediSave claim on your behalf. Our team will guide you through this during your visit.
Claims are only submitted after the full treatment is completed — not in advance, and not in stages.
Is This Available at Meiplus Dentalcare?

If you have questions about whether your specific treatment qualifies, please contact us directly and our team will be happy to advise.
Why This Matters for Singapore Seniors
Permanent crowns and root canal treatments are among the more costly restorative dental procedures. Without coverage, many patients — particularly older Singaporeans on fixed incomes — may delay or forgo treatment altogether. That delay can lead to more complex dental problems down the line.
This MOH update is a practical recognition that oral health is part of overall health. Maintaining healthy teeth supports proper nutrition, speech, and quality of life — especially as we age.
